We Watched An R-rated Movie

Olá a gente!

Hope you guys are doing fine. I'm finally going to write something out this time. This past week was a good one. There wasn't a while ton of crazy stuff going on in terms of missionary work, but we did have the chance to make an awesome journey out to the middle of nowhere Portugal. There were actually a few awesome villages we were able to walk through, and we found some cool chapels and some awesome cork trees. So that was pretty fun.

This week was also full of festivities since the Euro Cup is going on. They set up an outdoor amphitheatre in Espinho for everyone to be able to watch the games. It was packed and going crazy when Portugal was playing. So far, we are doing great. Whenever we scored, you could hear the cheers throughout the entire town. And we actually made a cameo in one of the pictures that the city posted on their social media.

There were also lots of celebrations for São João, which is a big festa that takes place Saturday through Monday. One cool tradition is that everyone will grab big hammers (soft ones), and you're supposed to go and smack random people on the head with them. We had a celebration on Saturday night with the wards here, and there were a lot of hammers and dancing. So that's a pretty fun thing going on here.

To explain the title: So this Sunday in church, we had elders quorum. The members decided that it would be awesome to watch Hacksaw Ridge for part of it to help explain a few points they were gonna give for the lesson. So we got to watch some of it, and it was actually a great lesson. I just thought it was funny that we were watching an r rated movie on the mission. In church. It was awesome.

Today for pday, we decided to walk around Porto for a bit, get some food, and then we played a bunch of spikeball in a park. The Portuguese had never seen it before, so we got a lot of intrigued and amused looks. We even had some people ask if they could try it out. So that was super fun. Maybe we could do missionary work with spikeball? That would be awesome, haha.

Spiritual thought: OK, so this spiritual thought would take a bit to explain here in text, so I'll attach a voice recording of it here.

Hope you all are doing great!

Elder Howard
